TERMS & CONDITIONS
We want you to have a fun and relaxed time at Sweatbox, but we also want to keep you safe. Which is why we must have some rules. A lot of them are new and some might seem a little odd. That’s because they’re all part of our system of keeping drugs out of the building without the need for intrusive bag and body searches.
SWEATBOX IS A GAY MALE ADULT GYM AND SAUNA
By entering these facilities, you affirm that you are over 18, are fully aware of the nature of gay saunas and that you will not be shocked or offended by your experience, notwithstanding anything you experience which is against UK law. If you experience anything that concerns or upsets you, in the first instance, please report this to the Duty Manager. If you are not satisfied with his response, please feel free to report your experience to info@Sweatboxsoho.com.
CONSENT / SEXUAL ASSAULT
By entering Sweatbox you affirm that you have read and agree to abide by our guidelines to sexual consent available HERE.
If you are new to gay saunas you agree that you have read our gay sauna guide available HERE.
If you feel you have been sexually assaulted, sexually harassed or feel unsafe in any way, please ask to speak to a Duty Manager who will listen to your concern and support you in how you choose to deal with it. After discussing your concerns, the Duty Manager will:
- Fill out an incident report form that should reflect your account and be signed by you to affirm it as an accurate account.
- Support and help you should you decide to report the incident to the police. Please remember that time is of the essence and an immediate police response is far more likely to be effective than a delayed report to them.
- In cases of sexual assault, provide you with information about Haven, a safe, LGBT+ friendly and judgement‑free facility that can take forensic evidence that could be essential in the pursuit of a crime. Again, this is a visit that needs to be made as a matter of urgency.
Sweatbox is proud of its reputation for offering a safe place, but sex is complicated and very occasionally issues of consent can make it distressing and a police matter. Whilst very rare, we take our responsibilities in supporting all customers very seriously.
Finally, please remember, our staff are not empowered to take one customer’s word over another. If a satisfactory solution cannot be found, then the only arbiters must be the police and, ultimately, the courts.
SWEATBOX IS A WET LEISURE FACILITY
As such you should assume that all floors are going to be wet. The flooring we use throughout the building is certified as Non‑Slip Barefoot in the Wet – the ultimate in non‑slip flooring. Nevertheless, you are advised to take sensible precautions when travelling through the building – making use of handrails on stairs and looking out for changes in levels – all of which are clearly indicated. Additionally, there are informational posters throughout the building explaining the correct use of our various facilities. Please make yourself aware of these before using any of the facilities.
LIGHTING
The lighting throughout Sweatbox is lower than daylight to reflect the mood. Nevertheless, all essential areas (corridors, stairs, escape routes) are adequately lit for your safety. If entering on a bright day, please take a few minutes to let your eyes adjust before travelling through the building. Some areas within the premises have been made exceptionally dark at the request of our customers who enjoy that experience. Please do not enter these areas if you feel uncomfortable in such places and if you do choose to enter these areas you will be doing so at your own risk.
CCTV
CCTV is used throughout the premises for your safety. By entering Sweatbox you agree that you are aware of this use in line with our data protection policy which can be found HERE.
CHEWING GUM
Sorry boys, but there’s no chewing gum allowed in the building.
ACCIDENTS
Should you have an accident of any kind whilst on the premises please be sure to report it to the Duty Manager as soon as possible. They will try to help you with your condition – or, if necessary, call a medic or ambulance. They will also help you fill out an Accident Report. It is very important that you give us as much detail as possible – especially regarding your opinion as to the cause of the accident. This allows our manager to check the area you specify to make sure it is safe for other customers.
MEMBERSHIPS AND ENTRY
Sweatbox memberships are now exclusively available through the Sweatbox app. We offer a variety of membership options to suit your needs:
- 24‑Hour Membership: Perfect for short stays, providing multiple visits within a 24‑hour period.

- Weekly Membership: Enjoy access for 7 consecutive days.
- Monthly Membership: Provides great value for regular visitors for 30 days.

All memberships are subject to the following conditions:
- Non‑Refundable Payments: Membership fees are non‑refundable, and we are unable to offer ‘freezes’ during your membership term.
- Entry Rules: All visits are subject to an 8‑hour maximum stay, with no return allowed within 2 hours. Overstays will incur a charge of £3 per hour or part thereof.
- Purchases at the Door: Single‑entry purchases made at the door are for that visit only and do not include membership benefits.
Memberships are non‑transferable and must be purchased via the Sweatbox app. Sweatbox reserves the right to alter, amend, or foreclose any promotions or rules without prior notice in the event of unforeseen circumstances. The decision of Sweatbox in any dispute is final.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Membership allows full use of all the facilities, but no gym induction or training is offered as part of your fee, although both can be arranged for additional fees. By accepting these terms and conditions, you affirm that you are familiar with the correct use of gym equipment (should you choose to use the gym) or intend to engage in an induction course prior to using the facilities.
Repeated misuse of the equipment will be deemed a breach of contract, and you may be prohibited from using the gym until you can provide proof that you have been properly trained. This restriction will not affect your right to use the sauna.
Additionally, by accepting these terms and conditions, you affirm that you have taken appropriate medical advice confirming there are no medical reasons why you should avoid using the facilities.
HOUSE RULES
- Sweatbox operates a ZERO DRUG policy. If at any time within Sweatbox you are found to be intoxicated by or in possession of illegal drugs, we reserve the right to terminate your membership without refund, and the matter may be reported to the police.
- We do not tolerate physical or verbal abuse toward our staff or other users of the facilities. Such behaviour could lead to a termination of membership without warning.
- Key‑operated lockers are provided for members’ convenience, but we do not recommend them for the storage of valuable possessions. Sweatbox accepts no liability for the loss or damage of personal possessions while on the premises. In the interests of members’ safety and protection, Sweatbox reserves the right to search lockers and bags.
- Sweatbox is open 24 hours a day, and the gym area is clothing optional, but suitable footwear must be always worn in the gym.
- Your locker must be cleared each time you leave. Anything left behind will be disposed of.
THE FOLLOWING RULES HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN ORDER TO KEEP DRUGS OUT OF THE BUILDING
GBL is the number one killer within the gay community. We are part of that community and are doing everything we can to keep it out.
The Valuables Box
At the beginning of your visit, you will be asked to put your valuables (phone, wallet, cigarettes etc) into a box for us to keep safe for you. This is because we don’t allow access to your locker during your stay. You can come to the bar and have access to the things in your valuables box as often as you want but you can’t take any of them anywhere outside of the Ground Floor. Anything left with us is done so at the customer’s risk; Sweatbox does not accept liability for any property lost or damaged. However the boxes are under CCTV and staff supervision and thus represent a much more secure storage place than a locker.
We do require you to leave something that our staff have determined to be of a value greater than £10. We do this because it helps prompt customers to bring their locker key back before leaving (every lost key costs us £10 to replace!).
Nothing but You and a Towel Allowed Beyond the Ground Floor
When you come to the bar to swap your locker key for a Spa Access Band, our staff will be checking to make sure you have nothing on you or with you. Not hats, no shoes, no underwear or swimsuits. No shampoo bottles. Sorry but it’s all part of our system of keeping drugs out of the building. Occasionally this may require you to remove your towel. If this makes you feel uncomfortable, please ask to speak to the Duty Manager who can arrange a minimal inspection in a private space such as our office. The office is covered by our CCTV for your protection and governed by our data protection policy found HERE. Should you be unwilling to remove your towel in such a circumstance, you are welcome to leave with a full refund.
Poppers
We do not allow open bottles of poppers beyond the Ground Floor. You are welcome to bring your unopened bottles with you. Alternatively, we sell poppers on the strict understanding that they should NOT be used within 15 minutes either side of using the steam rooms, tepidarium, IR sauna or spa bath as this can be dangerous. Sweatbox takes no responsibility for your popper usage. At our manager’s discretion, we are willing to store your poppers for you at a cost of £1 per visit.
No Return to Your Locker – or the Mezzanine – During Your Stay
For the duration of your stay, your locker will remain locked, and you will not have access to it. With the exception of gym users, no‑one is allowed to return to the mezzanine until they leave. Anyone found doing so will be asked to leave.
SWEATBOX IS A PRIVATE MEMBERS CLUB
As such we have the right to ask anyone showing disrespect to our staff or other customers to leave. The manager’s decision is final.
NOT ALL OF OUR FACILITIES ARE OPEN ALL OF THE TIME
To keep up with our high cleaning standards, certain areas will be closed every day at the following times for deep cleaning:
- Jacuzzi – closed between 7am and 11am.
- Wet spaces – closed between 4am and 6am.
The rest of the building and facilities will remain open, avoiding as much disruption to your visit as possible.
THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF ALL
Please treat everyone at Sweatbox – staff and customers – the way you would like to be treated. We are a community and we should be supporting each other and befriending each other, not judging or spreading shame. And just because you don’t fancy someone, there is no need to be rude or off‑hand. Sometimes the best friendships are formed between people who don’t fancy each other!
This contract is regulated by the Consumer Credit Act 1974. By accepting these terms and conditions, you affirm that you agree to its terms.
Sweatbox is the trading name of Gym Spa Soho Ltd. Company number 12920605. Registered office: 18 Carlisle St. London W1D 3BX.
Sexual Etiquette at a Gay Sauna
Saunas are sexualised spaces. For those that are sexually open and comfortable, they can offer an exciting and safer space in which to explore and engage with other guys. Remember there is no such thing as safe — only safer. Gay saunas only become a safer space if you follow the rules and guides below.
Rules
- No sexual contact without consent. “Lips, nips or bits” require consent before touching.
- Complaints about non‑consensual contact may result in removal. Serious cases may be reported to police.
- Respect privacy in private spaces (cabins etc). Do not look over walls or through cracks.
- Public spaces are for public fun. Others may watch or seek to join. If not comfortable, move to a private space.
- Consent is still required to join any activity in public spaces.
- Dark rooms imply consent to anonymous, non‑penetrative contact. If uncomfortable, leave immediately.
- Glory holes imply consent to anonymous full sexual activity. If not for you, leave the room.
- Slings still require consent. Always seek it first.
- Consent is two‑way. Make refusal clear. If you change your mind, clearly withdraw consent.
- Report concerns to the Duty Manager as soon as possible.
Consent Guide
Consent in a sauna is often non‑verbal (“code of silence”). If you are unsure you have consent, or that you have clearly withheld it, stop and seek or withhold consent verbally.
Step 1: Eye contact
- If eye contact isn’t returned, they’re not interested. Move on.
- If interested, meet their stare a few times until it’s clear.
- If not interested, avoid eye contact or walk away kindly.
Step 2: Non‑sexual contact
- Casual, non‑sexual touch can indicate interest (no lips, nips, or bits).
- If you do nothing when touched, you are consenting to continue. If not, move away.
- If unwanted, gently move their hand away or say clearly “I don’t consent.”
Step 3: Sex
- Discuss limits before moving to a private space when possible.
- If something is unwanted, withdraw consent clearly. The safest: say “I withdraw consent.”
- If uncomfortable, leave the area and seek staff support.
Golden rules: If you’re not sure you’ve been given consent, don’t do it. If you don’t want to do it, say “no” clearly.
